It’s my daughter’s 13th birthday today, and she’s officially a teenager! Time really does fly.
As I reflect on this day, I can’t help but remember the events from 13 years ago.
My mom had come all the way from Tokyo to Sydney to help me out, and I’ll never forget the delicious Galbi-jjim she cooked for me on September 2nd. Later that evening, at around 10:30 p.m., my contractions began. Sophie was born at 3:41 a.m. on September 3rd at the Sydney Adventist Hospital. She weighed 3.1kg and had a head full of hair.
I’ll never forget the moment she was born and how happy I felt when she immediately latched onto my breast. Holding her in my arms for the first time was an unforgettable experience.
In Korean culture, it’s customary to have seaweed soup on your birthday morning to wish for a healthy and happy year. It’s a tradition we’ve carried on in our family. Seaweed soup is a must-have on birthdays! My daughter enjoyed a nutritious and delicious breakfast of seaweed soup and rice with kimchi to kick off her new year. It’s a great start to a new year full of possibilities!
사랑해 우리 딸!
