Heryong is a passionate cuisine designer. She grew up in a family that has a long history of culinary researches. Her mother Kyeong-hwaJeong, is a very popular Korean cuisine designer for 40 years. She runs a Korean cooking studio, Kyeong-Hwa cooking studio, in Japan and is frequently invited to the national television NHK for cooking demonstrations. Jeong was the editor for the famous drama series Dae Jang Geum (???) in Japan.

Besides informal training by her mother from a young age, she has attended the proper training from The Institute of Korean Royal Cuisine and Royal Korean Dessert in Seoul as well. She studied under Bok-Chae Han, who is the holder of the National Intangible Cultural Heritage as given by the Korean government.

Heryong was born in Japan and graduated from Aoyama Gakuin University in Tokyo. After getting married to her husband from Hong Kong, she has moved to Sydney, Australia. In 2012, she moved to Singapore with her husband and daughter. She has exposed to different cultures and cuisinesand able to combine different local ingredients into her cooking to fit the local taste buds.

She learned more about the Singaporean’s customs when she started teaching Korean cooking classes for 12 months in the community centers programs organized by the People’s Associations.

Heryong speaks fluent English, Japanese, Korean and conversational Chinese. She has conducted many classes in those languages.

The Institute of Royal Korean Cuisine - 2016

The Institute of Korean Royal Cuisine is an educational culinary academy located next to the old Korean palace from the Joseon dynasty. Royal cuisine holds the designation of Important Intangible Cultural Heritage No 38.

Le Cordon Bleu - 2018

World renounced French cuisine school, founded in 1895 in Paris. In 2018, Heryong registered and did a short course at their newly renovated professional kitchen by the 15th arrondissement along banks of the Seine.

Nutrition for Optimum Health – 2019

Temasek Polytechnic organized a course that educate participants with theoretical and practical knowledge in nutrition and evidence-based strategies in areas of weight management, functional foods and menu planning.

Appearances

Samsung Event

Samsung Singapore invited Heryong to conduct workshops on stage to more than 100 people using their kitchen products in the Marina Bay Sands Convention Centre.

ACM Event

Asian Civilization Museum invited Heryong to conduct classes during their Korean theme event. She offered Gimbap-making workshop for families and kimchi-making workshop for adults. The workshops were fully booked out and very successful in introducing Korean cuisine.

Kia Event

KIA motors in Singapore invited Heryong to conduct family cooking workshops, and she introduced gimbap to families. The Two-day-workshops were fully booked out, and participants enjoyed making gimbap.

Hansik Contest by the Korean embassy in Singapore

Korean embassy organized the Hansik or Korean cooking contest in 2017 & 2019 in Singapore. They invited Heryong as one of the panelist judges. The events were very popular, and the embassy has highlighted the events in their official website
